St Albans Liberal Democrats 2023 Wrapped
From planning to tree planting – here’s our 2023 wrapped…
In early 2023, your local Lib Dem councillors secured an £8.54M grant to make homes more energy efficient here in the district – that’s more than 900 of the council’s social housing properties, and one fifth of the total!
Your Lib Dem-led district council secured 300k from the Government’s ‘Innovate UK’ agency, to fund St Albans ‘Greener Together’ scheme. They also planted 11,000 trees and issued 41 fly-tipping penalty notices – keeping St Albans clean and green!
After our multi-million pound project to replace the Marlborough Pavilion with a brand new community and cycling centre, local councillors introduced a new Walking and Cycling Strategy that’ll see the implementation of better cycling and walking routes in St Albans
As our draft local plan goes to public consultation, councillors have campaigned for less building on the green belt, greater account of climate change, and protecting the green belt from random developments (a plan the Government missed in their recent statement…)
With a booming charter market, Green Flag success, a new eco-friendly car parking strategy, the establishment of cash-free taxi payments, the introduction of green machines for your local parks, it’s been a busy year on the ground for your councillors.
In this year’s Council meetings, your councillors passed motions on protecting victims of the Windrush Scandal, the wellbeing of refugees, banning single-use vapes, and calling for the recognition of a biodiversity crisis, to name a few.
