To celebrate International Women's Day, we are highlighting some of the fantastic achievements of our female Lib Dem Councillors! We are incredibly proud of the strong women across our team here at St Albans Liberal Democrats - here are some of their fantastic accomplishments:

Councillor Ajanta Hilton

Ajanta is an international Powerlifter, who compete in the sport of powerlifting which is best total from back squat, bench press and deadlift. Ajanta Hilton said:

''In 2022 I achieved commonwealth gold representing England in New Zealand which was an amazing experience.  I love being strong, able to represent my country and most importantly breaking barriers by being one of the very few south Asian women competing in strength.''

Councillor Jenni Murray

Jenni Murray was born and raised in St Albans, and has recently been recognised at the 'Becoming Us' exhibition at St Albans museum as the first black female councillor in St Albans. Jenni Murray said:

''It has been a truly amazing  opportunity to serve as the first black female Councillor in St Albans, in the ward where I was born and raised.  Thank you Daisy Cooper for believing in me!

''I have been welcomed by so many lovely colleagues and residents alike. I also stand proud in recognition of the black community in St Albans, which is more poignant this year  with the  ‘Becoming Us’ African Caribbean exhibition currently on display in the museum.''

Councillor Raihaanah Ahmed

Raihaanah is the founder of the St Albans Community Pantry, and a tireless volunteer and campaigner. Raihaanah said:

''I’m really proud to have founded and developed an innovative food aid initiative that alleviates the pressures of food insecurity in a dignified way while also addressing food waste issue here in St Albans. I’m inspired by the first Muslim hijab wearing Olympic athlete, Ibtihaj Muhammad, who embodies the strength of covered Muslim women who are uncompromising in their ambitions.''

Councillor Nuala Web

Nuala is a Liberal Democrat Councillor and tireless campaigner from Park Street. Nuala said:

''I am incredibly proud of my work with Fight the Freight. Having founded the organisation alongside local friends and volunteers with a shared vision, we have finally been granted our day in court. Our almost entirely female team continues to work and campaign tirelessly to protect local greenbelt land and fight inappropriate development! Watch this space!''
