Janet Churchard has lived in Marshalswick since 1978 together with her husband Geoff and their family. Their children were born and grew up in Marshalwick and had successful school careers at Sandringham School. When they were young, Janet was a volunteer at Marshalswick Youth Club, and she also became a Parish Councillor. Twenty years later, she is still a member of Sandridge Parish Council and for the last four years, she has been one of the District Councillors for Marshalswick North. Janet now also serves as Chair of Jersey Farm Woodland Park Management Committee.
As a local Councillor, Janet has been able to help many people in Marshalswick. As well as dealing with individual cases, she has worked with colleagues Tom Clegg and Geoff Churchard on road safety campaigns for local schools and on campaigns to prevent development in back gardens and open spaces. The Lib Dem team has continuously put pressure on Conservative-run Herts Highways to tackle the serious backlog of repair work needed on the local roads.
Like many local residents, Janet is worried about the increase in cars and parking problems; the demand for more homes; and the added pressure local communities suffer due to living so close to London. Most Marshalswick residents do not want to see back gardens sold to developers, and the local Lib Dem councillors all strongly support the fight to keep our back gardens free from over-development.
The Localism Act will give the Parish Council new powers, and Janet and her colleagues will be proposing that Marshalswick North be designated as 'An Area of Special Residential Character' to help in the fight against over-development.
With your support on May 3rd, Janet can be re-elected as a District Councillor and will continue to critically check all local planning applications, as well as all the other work she and her colleagues do for Marshalswick all through the year.
