Geoff Harrison has been the District Councillor for Cunningham for the past 12 years, representing residents' views on a wide range of committees and working parties and ensuring that the interests of the area are always taken into account.
Geoff has had the privilege of being Deputy Mayor twice, representing the City and District to local communities across the County and meeting many local voluntary organisations.
Geoff is involved with the Highfield Park Trust, which looks after the park created on the sites of Cell Barnes and Hill End Hospitals, and is very pleased that the sites have been developed into a green and wooded area for leisure and sport, including indoor and outdoor facilities, allotments, youth football pitches, and a village green.
For a number of years Geoff has served as a trustee of the Pioneer Youth Centre. In recent months, he has worked with Trustees and Lib Dem colleagues to ensure that, if or when the site is developed, there is re-provision for both the youth service and the skate park. The centre allows young people to play and listen to live music, and is one of the finest venues in the District.
He also chairs the Cell Barnes Youth Project, which helps problem youngsters and reduces anti-social behaviour by running courses on motor bikes, music making, fishing, horse care and self-awareness.
Geoff has worked with the Police and local shopkeepers to get CCTV installed around the shops in Cell Barnes Lane, and has been involved in the development of the new Cunningham Hub into a valuable asset for our area, with a varied range of rooms for community use.
In addition, Geoff has consistently defended the Green Belt around Cunningham, working with local residents to ensure, for example, that trees in Birklands Meadow continue to be protected and that Napsbury Fields are not included in the Conservatives' plans to build more housing in the South of the District.
These are some of the things he has done, but Geoff feels he still has plenty of energy and time; he wants to give back to the local community, by continuing to serve as the local Councillor for Cunningham.
