Chris White has been the County Councillor for St Albans Central since 1993, and since 2008 has served as the District Councillor for Clarence Ward.
He originally trained as an accountant and, over the years he has been involved in local politics, has served as a member of the Police Authority and the Audit Commission. He currently chairs the District Council's Audit Committee to make sure the money you pay in Council Tax is spent wisely.
After many years leading for the Local Government Association on Culture, Media and Sport, Chris now works in Public Affairs. He lives in St Albans with his wife and two daughters, commuting into London on a daily basis. He is campaigning, alongside other Liberal Democrats locally and further afield, to ensure that First Capital Connect does not get its franchise renewed later this year, given its persistently appalling performance.
As a County Councillor, Chris takes a particularly keen interest in the state of our highways - and has consistently highlighted the failings of the County Council to provide a decent repairs service. He strongly supported the new St Albans City school, after years of campaigning for additional school places.
On a more local level, Chris has been pressing the District Council to upgrade the Rec in Fleetville and to improve its performance in keeping the streets free of rubbish. He thinks St Albans is potentially a leading night-time destination and so the Council needs to focus its tourism spending to make people across the county - and further afield - realise how excellent our pubs, restaurants and live music scene are.
