As part of the Conservative-run County Council's efforts to reduce expenditure, they have implemented a policy of 'part night lighting'.
They are rolling out a one-size-fits-all approach which will see the lights go out at midnight in most areas. Currently the only exceptions to this are where the lights have been kept on for safety reasons, for example around traffic calming measures and CCTV.
The Lib Dems' policy is that this is simply not flexible enough: for example, lights should be kept on later on a Friday or Saturday night, or in areas like St Albans where commuters often having to come home later.
As local councillors, we have also been working to keep lights on at night in areas, such as near to the Hospital and the City Station. Where there's a particular cause for concern, we've been asking for extra lights to be kept on.

Come and look at the Part Night Lighting maps
To provide an opportunity for residents to see a hard copy of the maps and speak with a local Lib Dem County Councillor, we have arranged a display to be held at 9 Hatfield Road, St Albans, AL1 3RR (above Kashu restaurant).
Since this announcement, and thanks to an intervention by St Albans City Forum, chaired by Liberal Democrat Councillor Michael Green, there will now be a display at the Council Offices. We will provide more details as soon as they become available.
